Health Awareness EventSeptember 2010 On Saturday 21st August we held the health awareness morning at Methodist Church in Earl Shilton. Dr Jenkins, Dr Priestman, Jane Pearce and Janet Cameron attended the event together with members of the Patient Participation Group. A range of leaflets and opportunity to self assess risk of diabetes through waist measurement and weight was available. We were able to provide a wealth of information in leaflet form about healthy eating, diabetes risk, alcohol awareness, smoking cessation amongst many others.
We took along the self monitoring Blood Pressure machine, which is usually located in the waiting area of the surgery next to the fish tank.
The PPG members were on hand to discuss their roles and to encourage members to join.
The PPG have been successful in developing the 'Lets Walk Earl Shilton Group' on Tuesday mornings.
On the whole this was a successful and enjoyable event and one which we intend to repeat in the future.
Many thanks to the PPG for coming up with this excellent idea and for their hard work in arranging the venue and coordinating the day.
